On August 17, the pan-European TV network Euronews published an article announcing that the European Commission had been monitoring the UFO issue for three years, basing upon  a letter from the office of the EU Commissioner for Defense and Space sent in response to two Malaysian amateur astronomers, in 2023.

The reality is far less clear-cut, even if interesting. In 2022, the two amateur astronomers contacted a few institutions (including NASA and the EU Commission) to inform that they had had repeated sightings of anomalous aerial phenomena. The EUC answer was little more than a formality, the only relevant sentence being that “we are improving our ability to address this issue and to identify them more effectively as our technological capabilities improve.”

The letter had already been known and published in UFO circles, but it was relaunched to the general public, now.
